Preity Zinta shook up the whole of B-town and its followers when she filed an FIR against business partner and ex-lover Ness Wadia last Thursday.
Since then there have been many a development. Preity's lawyer recently revealed that they had not used the term 'molestation' in the FIR but the police had concluded it to be so as the intention was to "outrage a woman's modesty" by grabbing her (Preity's) arm without her consent.
The police are continuing the investigation by trying to grab evidences from CCTV cameras and by collecting witnesses who can testify against Ness. Apparently, the police are working closely with BCCI to find details such as the seating arrangement in the pavilion that particular day (May 30) and the list of spectators at Garware pavilion. They are also trying to get hold of the hospitality and security staff on duty that day. Police say they are expected to get this list in a couple of days.
Preity Zinta had informed the police that she had lodged a verbal complaint against Ness to IPL Chairman Ranjib Biswal. Apparently, Biswal refused to comment about this complaint but said that he would co-operate with the investigating authorities if they contacted him.
On the other hand, supporters of Ness are sure that this FIR can be squashed, as the allegations are false. A source hinted to TOI that this was just the reaction of a scorned lover, out of jealousy. The source mentioned that this was just an argument over seats and grabbing someone's hand does 'not' amount to molestation.
Preity has also received this criticism from other quarters. Columnist Tavleen Singh associated with Indian Express tweeted, "Shame on Preity Zinta for making a molestation out of a tiff between ex-lovers. When little girls are raped and hanged for nothing. Clarification: in a country with vile, daily crimes against women it is wrong for privileged women to file trivial cases. To all you feminist trolls: please show as much rage when women and little girls are raped as you have shown for Preity Zinta. If verbal abuse amounts to 'outraging' a woman's modesty I have a long list of trolls I can file an FIR against. Beware!!"
Well, what do you make of Ms Singh's statement? If this case just a terrible lover's tiff or is it that women in our country are being thoroughly judged for their actions? Does this not make us a sexist society? Your thoughts?
